Renan Santos criticizes 2026 election process while voting in São Paulo

During the first round of the 2026 Brazilian elections, presidential candidate Renan Santos (Missão) cast his vote in São Paulo and issued several criticisms regarding the electoral process. Santos described the election as the most bizarre and empty since the country's redemocratization, citing a lack of substantive debate on candidate proposals and excessive judicialization.

Santos specifically targeted Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL), labeling him as unqualified and criticizing the strategic voting (voto útil) movement aimed at supporting him. He also accused TV Globo of conspiring to favor Bolsonaro by canceling a scheduled presidential debate, suggesting the broadcaster intended to protect the senator.

In his campaign prior to voting, Santos emphasized his priority to reclaim the Port of Santos and the Baixada mountains from organized crime. Other candidates across Brazil, including Marina Silva, Hana Ghassan, and Eduardo Braga, also cast their votes, highlighting regional priorities such as women's safety, public health, and education.
