Renan Santos proposes nuclear weapons and security reforms FAST-MOVING

During recent televised interviews and debates, presidential candidate Renan Santos (Missão) has proposed significant shifts in Brazilian national policy. Santos advocated for the development of nuclear weapons to increase Brazil’s international sovereignty and strategic influence, suggesting that such technology is necessary to secure a seat on the UN Security Council.

Regarding domestic security, Santos proposed adopting elements of El Salvador’s security model, including a “state of exception” in favelas to combat organized crime. He also suggested implementing “Enemy Criminal Law” and stated he might refuse to comply with specific Supreme Federal Court (STF) decisions if they were deemed “illegal” or hindered security operations.

His rhetoric has sparked intense political friction. First Lady Janja da Silva issued a formal repudiation of Santos, accusing him of misogyny following comments he made about her during a presidential debate. Santos responded by calling her “narcissistic” and a “mad queen” in a social media video.

Polling data indicates a shifting landscape; while President Lula maintains a national lead, Indexa research shows Santos leading in the Southern region of Brazil in a potential second-round runoff.
