Renan Santos picks retired lieutenant colonel Aroldo Medina as vice‑presidential running mate

Renan Santos, president of the Missão party, announced at an event in Caxias do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul, that retired lieutenant‑colonel Aroldo Medina will be his vice‑presidential candidate. Medina, 62, spent 30 years in the Rio Grande do Sul Military Brigade after beginning his career in the Air Force, and later worked as a journalist and editor focused on military history. He holds postgraduate studies in public security and a specialization in civil defense.

Medina has previously run for office several times, securing 222 votes in a Porto Alegre city council race and 1,586 votes in a 2018 bid for the Rio Grande do Sul state assembly, both resulting in substitute positions. His selection adds a security‑focused profile to Santos' presidential campaign.

The announcement came alongside confirmations of other vice‑presidential candidates: former governor Ronaldo Caiado named former São Paulo mayor Gilberto Kassab as his running mate, while incumbent Vice President Geraldo Alckmin is confirmed on the ticket of President Luiz Inácio Lula.
