Renan Santos selects Aroldo Medina as vice‑presidential running mate in Brazil
Renan Santos, the pre‑candidate for the presidency by the Missão party, announced on 1 March that lieutenant‑colonel Aroldo Medina will be his vice‑presidential candidate. The announcement took place at a party event in Caxias do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul, after Medina presented Santos with a medal, to which he replied, “I accept the mission.”
Medina, 62, is a reserve lieutenant‑colonel of the Brigada Militar do Rio Grande do Sul and a journalist. He has previously run for several offices – governor of Rio Grande do Sul, mayor of Canoas, state deputy and Porto Alegre city councilor – without being elected. The new ticket positions Santos and Medina as the Missão party’s presidential‑vice presidential slate for the upcoming election.
