Renan Santos vows fiscal cuts, prison build‑out and coalition with Brazil’s Centrão
Renan Santos, the presidential candidate of the Missão party, has outlined a series of proposals for Brazil. He calls for a review of tax incentives, singling out the Manaus Free Zone where he says Honda benefits from a R$ 16 billion annual tax waiver, and argues that many incentives should be reduced while retaining those that support agribusiness.
He proposes a new fiscal regime that cuts public spending to generate space for building 300,000‑500,000 new prison places, describing the expansion as an infrastructure investment. Santos says the savings will be redirected to investment and that he will pursue constitutional amendments to desindex pensions, health and education revenues, and to create a special tribunal for politicians, limiting the Supreme Federal Court’s privileged jurisdiction.
On security, he advocates aggressive police tactics, stating that criminals who resist arrest may be killed. He also pledges to adopt operations similar to Brazil’s “GLO” while respecting the Supreme Court’s limits.
Politically, Santos says he must negotiate with the Centrão, expecting at least 300 “parasites” to be elected, and insists he will form a governing coalition with those parties. He characterises former president Jair Bolsonaro and current president Luiz Inácio Lula as “faces of the same coin” that cause “terrible damage” to Brazil’s future. Santos also announced a long‑term “desfavelização” program to regularise favelas through public‑private partnerships, estimating a cost of up to one trillion reais over 15 years.
