Renata Mietto awaits voluntary departure following U.S. detention
Brazilian actress Renata Mietto remains in U.S. custody despite a court authorization for voluntary departure. The legal arrangement allows her release on the condition that she embarks for her home country, though a specific date for her return to Brazil has not yet been established.
Mietto was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on August 27 at a Los Angeles airport while preparing for a flight to Hawaii. Following a denied request to remain free during legal proceedings in September, she was transferred to El Paso, Texas.
Mietto’s mother, Márcia Alves dos Reis, has alleged that her daughter suffered mistreatment during detention, including difficult transport conditions and inadequate food, which has led to noticeable weight loss. Mietto has resided in the United States since 2016, having completed high school and graduated from Utah Valley University.
