Renata Zarazúa advances to China Open second round

Mexican tennis player Renata Zarazúa, ranked 94th in the WTA, advanced to the second round of the China Open after defeating Hungary's Anna Bondar. Zarazúa won the match in two sets, 7-6(4) and 6-3, in a contest lasting two hours and 14 minutes.

Zarazúa, celebrating her 29th birthday, had to overcome deficits in both sets to secure the victory on the Diamond court in Beijing. This win marks her as the first Mexican player to compete in the main draw of the Beijing tournament, according to the WTA.

Her victory sets up a second-round match against the second seed, Aryna Sabalenka. In the broader context of Mexican tennis in 2026, Zarazúa remains the country's only female player in the top 100.
