Renate Franziska Stopper, Veteran Surrey Teacher, Dies at Vancouver Hospital

Renate Franziska Stopper passed away peacefully at Vancouver General Hospital after a prolonged battle with heart and lung disease. She was survived by her sister Helga, brother‑in‑law Ray, nephew Chris and his children Julian and Jamie, niece Elizabeth, and twin nephews Erik and Nakoda, along with extended members of the Lankmayr family.

Born in Austria, Stopper immigrated to Canada with her mother and sister in 1956 at age ten. She built a career as an English teacher in the Surrey School District, eventually becoming head of the English department at Lord Tweedsmuir High School. In retirement she lived in White Rock, where she remained active in community life, enjoying walks with her dog, card games, trips to the casino, and regular attendance at plays and symphonies.
