Renaud Lavoie discusses career bullying and social media criticism
Quebec sports journalist Renaud Lavoie recently shared insights into his career and personal philosophy during an appearance on the podcast ‘Les Meneurs’. Lavoie, who covers the Montreal Canadiens and the NHL for TVA Sports, addressed the polarizing nature of his professional style and his approach to online criticism.
Lavoie stated that he remains indifferent to negative comments on social media, noting that his goal is to perform his job to the best of his ability rather than to be universally liked. He acknowledged that his personality can sometimes be ‘abrasive’ or ‘spicy’ as part of the entertainment aspect of modern media.
Reflecting on his professional journey, Lavoie also discussed the bullying he experienced early in his career. He noted that the media environment was different 20 to 25 years ago, when such behavior was less recognized as a serious issue. He expressed that his current professional philosophy is driven by a desire to never treat others the way he was treated when he first started in journalism.
