Renaud Muselier criticized for remarks on Alpine territories

Renaud Muselier, President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, is facing political criticism following comments regarding the political weight of Alpine territories. In an interview with La Provence, Muselier reportedly suggested that “the Alps weigh less politically” when discussing potential successors for the regional executive.

Local officials Franck Allisio, Sophie Vaginay-Ricourt, and Christian Girard issued a joint communiqué condemning the remarks as “contemptuous” toward the Alpine departments and their residents. The officials argued that the President of the Region has a fundamental duty to represent all six departments equally, rather than prioritizing them based on political influence. They noted that the comments affect approximately 300,000 residents in the Alpine areas.
