Renault and Toyota advance electrification in SUV and pickup segments

Major automotive manufacturers are advancing electrification in the SUV and pickup segments. Renault has debuted the Duster Hybrid E-Tech 4x4, featuring a 150 hp powertrain that combines a combustion engine with a 48V electrical system and a 0.8 kWh lithium-ion battery.

The Duster utilizes an intelligent 4x4 system where an electric motor on the rear axle manages traction, eliminating the need for a traditional mechanical driveshaft. It also introduces a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (EDC) and advanced digital telemetry for off-road monitoring.

Meanwhile, Toyota is preparing the 2027 Hilux update to compete in an increasingly electrified market. The upcoming model is expected to feature a revised exterior design and a more digital interior. Most notably, Toyota plans to introduce a 100% electric version of the Hilux equipped with a 59.2 kWh battery.
