Renault considers removing combustion engines from future Clio models

Renault is currently developing the seventh generation of its Clio model, which may represent a major shift in the vehicle's 40-year history. Fabrice Cambolive, head of the Renault brand, stated that the company has not yet decided whether the future Clio will retain an internal combustion engine.

This potential transition aligns with Renault's 'futuREady' strategy, which aims for 100% electrified sales in Europe by 2030. While the company plans to continue offering Full Hybrid E-Tech powertrains in Europe after 2030, the Clio VII could move toward a fully electric or hybrid-only lineup, departing from the current generation's mix of petrol, LPG, and hybrid options.

In the meantime, the current sixth-generation Clio E-Tech features a 160 CV full-hybrid system and updated design elements, such as the Esprit Alpine trim, as the brand transitions its portfolio toward more sophisticated and electrified compact models.
