Renault expands Eco-G LPG propulsion technology

Renault is expanding its Eco-G LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) propulsion technology across its Clio, Captur, and Symbioz models. The new generation of the 120 hp system offers improved performance, providing an additional 20 hp and 30 Nm of torque compared to previous iterations.

The technology utilizes a 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbo gasoline engine adapted for bi-fuel operation. This system allows for an automatic transition between LPG and gasoline. Due to the use of dual tanks, the Symbioz offers a total range of up to 1,500 km, while the Clio reaches up to 1,450 km.

Economically, LPG is positioned as an accessible alternative to traditional fuels, offering price stability and reduced operating costs. Environmentally, these gasoline/LPG systems reduce CO2 emissions by an average of 9% compared to equivalent gasoline engines. In markets like Portugal, the technology is increasingly popular for corporate fleets due to tax incentives regarding VAT deductions.
