Renault eyes hybrid V6 Spider roadster to challenge electric models

Renault is studying a revival of the Spider, the barchetta sportscar first introduced in 1995, as a contemporary roadster that retains a combustion engine instead of adopting a fully electric powertrain. The new design would be inspired by the recent Renault Emblem concept and feature a windscreen, distinctive LED lighting and a muscular, yet refined, silhouette.

The proposed powertrain would draw on Renault’s HORSE joint‑venture with Geely and Aramco, installing a 3.0‑litre V6 biturbo‑hybrid called W30 that weighs about 160 kg and produces roughly 544 hp, delivered to the rear wheels via a hybrid dual‑clutch gearbox. Renault could badge the model as Alpine for the North American market, positioning it as a lifestyle‑focused alternative to upcoming electric models such as the Alpine A110 and Porsche 718 Boxster.
