Renault Group and EDF partner on bidirectional EV charging in France

Renault Group and EDF Group have entered a partnership in France to launch an integrated electric vehicle (EV) solution. The collaboration focuses on bidirectional charging technologies, including vehicle-to-grid (V2G) and vehicle-to-home (V2H) capabilities.

The package, expected to roll out to private customers by summer next year, combines an electric vehicle with a home charging system and smart charging management. Services will be available through Renault Group’s dealership network, with home charger installation managed by EDF subsidiary IZI and charging management provided by DREEV.

The initiative aims to optimize energy use by allowing EV batteries to act as storage units that can feed energy back into a home or the electrical grid during peak demand. This is intended to help lower electricity bills for owners and increase grid flexibility. The service will support bidirectional-capable models within the Renault Group, such as the Renault 5, Renault Twingo, and Dacia Spring.
