Renault halts pure‑electric sales in Argentina, eyes hybrid SUV launch in Brazil

Renault has withdrawn the Megane E‑Tech, its only fully electric model, from the Argentine market. The decision follows intense competition from new Chinese EV makers such as BYD, Leapmotor and GAC, whose models offer more equipment at lower prices and benefit from reduced tariffs on imported electrified vehicles. Renault has not announced a replacement and will continue to focus on conventional‑engine cars while developing other electrified options for the region.

Meanwhile, the French automaker is testing a hybrid version of its Boreal SUV in Brazil. The prototype features a rear‑mounted electric motor producing about 31 hp and 87 Nm of torque, paired with a 156‑hp gasoline turbo engine, delivering roughly 180 hp combined. The 48‑volt hybrid system can provide front‑wheel, rear‑wheel or all‑wheel drive. Renault plans to launch the Boreal hybrid in Brazil in the first half of 2027, with a possible later introduction to Argentina.
