Renault plans electric 4x4 and open‑roof versions of the Renault 4
Renault is reportedly developing a new electric version of its iconic Renault 4 that will feature all‑wheel drive. The model draws on the Renault 4 Savane concept shown in 2025 and would use a dual‑motor layout – a primary electric motor at the front axle and an additional motor on the rear axle – to deliver traction on snow, off‑road or slippery surfaces. Prototypes have been tested and the design includes a slightly wider rear track (20 mm) and a 15 mm higher ground clearance.
In parallel, the company is also preparing a Plein Sud variant, an open‑roof version of the electric Renault 4. The car will have a canvas roof that opens to nearly one square metre, operates via a switch beside the rear‑view mirror, and can be set in three positions before folding into the rear of the vehicle. The Plein Sud is positioned as a compact B‑SUV, measuring about 4.14 metres in length and offering a spacious interior while evoking nostalgia for earlier Renault 4 designs.
