Renault rolls out electric R4, R5 upgrades and unveils 555 hp Renault 5 Turbo 3E at Goodwood
Renault announced that its popular R4 and R5 electric models will receive new “Gen 2 Evo” powertrains, boosting range to as much as 252 miles for the R5 and 250 miles for the R4. The updates, slated for release at the end of this year or early next, will replace the current externally excited‑synchronous motors with more efficient inverter‑driven units, while retaining the existing designs.
At the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July, the French automaker will publicly debut the Renault 5 Turbo 3E, a fully electric reinterpretation of the iconic rally car. The Turbo 3E is powered by two rear‑mounted in‑wheel motors delivering 555 hp and 4,800 Nm of torque, enabling 0–100 km/h in under 3.5 seconds. An 800‑volt architecture allows a 15‑minute charge from 15 % to 80 % capacity. The showcase will also feature the historic 1985 Tour de Corse‑winning Renault 5 Turbo, the Renault RS10 Formula 1 car, and the championship‑winning Renault R25.
