Renault scraps expansion of Dacia plant in Mioveni, Romania

Renault announced it will not increase the production capacity of the Dacia plant in Mioveni, Romania, cancelling a plan that would have raised output from about 350,000 to 400,000 vehicles a year. The French group said the automotive market remains weak and the strategy now focuses on "efficiency, flexibility and resource optimisation".

Production at the Mioveni factory fell from a record 309,432 cars in 2024 to 297,381 in 2025, a decline of roughly 4 %. The two new Dacia models launched this year will not be built in Romania – the C‑Neo will be assembled in Turkey and the new electric model in Slovenia. Dacia’s market share in Romania slipped to 18.2 %, a historic low, and Renault repatriated all profits as dividends.

The decision highlights Renault’s shift away from expanding its Romanian base and toward a more distributed manufacturing network that already includes plants in Morocco and China.
