Renault shifts design strategy away from retro models
Renault is pausing its strategy of releasing modern reinterpretations of its classic car models. Following the recent introduction of the electric Renault 5, Renault 4, and Twingo, the company intends to move toward different stylistic languages for its upcoming vehicle generations.
Laurens van den Acker, Renault's design chief, announced the shift during the 2026 Paris Motor Show. He noted that while the nostalgic approach has been successful, the company must calibrate its use of heritage to avoid it becoming a repetitive formula.
Future design efforts will focus on renewing vehicles in the C and D segments. These upcoming compact and larger models are not expected to feature historical reinterpretations in the immediate future, marking a departure from the design direction seen in the recent small electric lineup.
