Renault Trucks celebrates 70 years of manufacturing in Blainville-sur-Orne

The Renault Trucks manufacturing plant in Blainville-sur-Orne, Normandy, is celebrating 70 years of industrial activity. Since production began in 1956 under Saviem, a subsidiary of Renault, the facility has evolved significantly.

Today, the plant employs approximately 2,400 people and serves as a central hub for manufacturing cabins for all Renault Trucks models, as well as assembling medium-duty vehicles. The site also features a center for customizing vehicles to meet specific customer requirements.

The site's history dates back to 1917 as a shipyard for Chantiers Navals Français before transitioning to industrial vehicle production in 1956. Following various corporate shifts, including becoming part of Renault Véhicules Industriels in 1978 and joining the Volvo Group in 2001, the plant has maintained a leading role in the industry.

A major milestone occurred in 2020 when the facility became the first plant in Europe to begin serial production of electric trucks. Since then, it has produced over 3,000 E-Tech D and E-Tech D Wide electric units, which are manufactured alongside traditional internal combustion engine models.
