Renault unveils electric 4WD beach‑buggy concept Renault 4 JP4x4
Renault presented its new Renault 4 JP4x4 Concept, a retro‑styled electric beach buggy with all‑wheel drive. The vehicle was unveiled at the Roland‑Garros venue in Paris on 18 May 2026, paying homage to the original 1969 Plein Air and the 1981 JP4 versions of the classic 4L.
The concept keeps the compact hatchback’s platform but removes the roof and rear doors, creating a two‑seat buggy with a turquoise X‑shaped roof frame that can hold a surfboard. It features a bright emerald‑green body and orange interior trim. Power comes from a dual‑motor setup borrowed from Renault’s Savane 4×4 concept, delivering a combined output of roughly 150 hp (112 kW) and 4WD capability. The 52 kWh battery supports fast DC charging up to 100 kW, allowing a 15‑to‑80 % charge in about 30 minutes. Performance figures include a top speed limited to 150 km/h and 0‑100 km/h acceleration in 8.2 seconds. The suspension is raised by 15 mm and fitted with 18‑inch aluminium wheels wrapped in Goodyear UltraGrip tyres, making it suitable for sand and rough coastal roads.
