Renault‑Nissan alliance expands small EV range with Micra launch and R4/R5 upgrades

Nissan’s new Micra electric hatchback, built on the shared AmpR Small platform with the Renault 5, was test‑driven showing WLTP‑rated ranges of up to 416 km, dual‑motor outputs of 120 hp or 150 hp, fast‑charging capability up to 100 kW and features such as a heat pump, vehicle‑to‑load and optional ProPilot Assist. Belgian pricing starts at €29,250 for the lower‑spec version.

Renault announced that its electric Renault 4 and Renault 5 models will receive a power and efficiency upgrade in late 2026 or early 2027. The upgrade will focus on a revised inverter and reduction gearbox to boost output and lower energy consumption without enlarging the battery pack. While exact figures are not yet disclosed, the move aims to keep the models competitive against forthcoming small EVs from Volkswagen and Skoda, and may involve lithium‑iron‑phosphate battery technology to reduce costs.

Both developments highlight the alliance’s strategy of extracting more performance and value from the common AmpR Small architecture as competition intensifies in the affordable electric‑car segment.
