Renee Good's family sues U.S. government over fatal ICE shooting

The family of Renee Good has filed two federal lawsuits against the U.S. government and several high-ranking officials following her fatal shooting by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer in Minneapolis this past January.

One lawsuit, filed under the Federal Tort Claims Act, targets the U.S. government for wrongful death, negligence, and excessive use of force. The second lawsuit alleges a conspiracy to violate civil rights, naming ICE officer Jonathan Ross, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, and White House border czar Tom Homan as defendants.

The incident occurred during Operation Metro Surge, a federal immigration enforcement campaign. While federal officials maintain that officer Ross acted in self-defense after Good allegedly attempted to ram him, the family’s legal team argues that video evidence shows Good attempting to drive slowly away when the shots were fired. The lawsuits claim the enforcement operation was a coordinated effort that resulted in predictable confrontations and constitutional violations.
