Renesas Semiconductor to invest RM700 million in Malaysian AI production

Renesas Semiconductor KL Sdn. Bhd. (RSKL) plans to invest RM700 million over the next two years to explore the production of artificial intelligence (AI) products in Malaysia. Managing Director Tee Kean Soon stated that the company already has product models ready for final production stages due to existing demand from business partners. While Renesas maintains facilities in Japan and China, these specific AI products will be expanded within its Malaysian plant.

In addition to AI manufacturing, the company is accelerating its operational transformation through smart factory initiatives. These include integrating automation, digitalization, AI, and advanced analytics to improve productivity and quality. The long-term goal is to achieve ‘Light-off Production,’ a highly automated manufacturing process requiring minimal human intervention.

As part of its sustainability efforts, RSKL has also launched a solar-roofed parking project. The installation covers 325 parking bays and is capable of generating 2.4 megawatt-hours (MWh) of energy, which is expected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 3,610.4 metric tons annually.
