India renewable energy sector sees policy shifts and infrastructure investments
India is seeing significant developments in renewable energy infrastructure and policy. In Delhi, the government has approved an amended Solar Energy Policy to provide rooftop solar systems of up to 3 kW at zero upfront cost for eligible households consuming up to 400 units monthly. The initiative aims to install systems on 2.3 lakh rooftops to add 500 MW of capacity by March 2027. Similarly, Uttar Pradesh is issuing tenders for 2.5 MW of hybrid rooftop solar systems with battery storage for government buildings.
In the private sector, Waaree Transpower is investing approximately ₹1.92 billion to establish a 500 MVA, 400 kV transformer manufacturing facility, expected to be operational by April 2027. Waaree Energies is also expanding its international footprint, investing $37 million to increase its Arizona module plant capacity from 1 GW to 1.6 GW.
Additionally, CleanMax has signed a term sheet with Envision Energy India for the procurement of 1,550 MW of wind turbine generators, consisting of 310 units of 5 MW each, to support upcoming wind energy projects.
