Renewable energy generation rises in India and Ireland

India and Ireland both reported significant increases in renewable energy contributions to their electricity grids during July 2026.

In India, solar power generation surged by 49.43% year-on-year, reaching 18,082 MU in July. Solar accounted for 9.91% of the nation's total electricity generation for the month. Wind generation also saw growth, rising 5.30% to 18,505 MU, contributing 10.14% to the total mix. For the cumulative period of April to July 2026, renewables accounted for 27.50% of India's total electricity generation.

In Ireland, renewable sources supplied more than 30% of the country's electricity in July. Solar energy reached a record monthly performance, accounting for nearly 10% of the electricity mix. Wind energy provided 22% of the total power. While gas remained the largest single source at 43%, grid operator EirGrid noted that the system is being upgraded to handle higher levels of variable renewable sources, with a goal of reaching 95% capacity for such power.
