Renewable energy infrastructure faces stability and transmission challenges

The global transition to renewable energy is encountering significant technical and infrastructural hurdles. In China, Dongfang Electric Motor has successfully tested a 35 kilovolt synchronous condenser capable of direct grid connection. This technology acts as a stabilizer for electrical networks, providing reactive power and inertia to mitigate voltage fluctuations and frequency changes caused by the intermittent nature of solar and wind power.

In Chile, the Biobío Region is experiencing difficulties integrating renewable production due to grid limitations. Data from the National Electric Coordinator (CEN) indicates that renewable energy reductions reached 3,556 GWh between January and September 2026, a 5% decrease from the previous year. While 60% of national energy cuts were due to oversupply, 40% were linked to transmission constraints, particularly in the northern zone. Regional authorities note that expanding electrical corridors must keep pace with the development of new wind and solar plants, a process currently slowed by environmental assessments and permitting timelines.
