Renewable energy projects expand solar and battery capacity in Australia

Renewable energy developers are expanding hybrid solar and battery infrastructure in Australia. European Energy has commenced construction of a 40 MW / 80 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at its 58 MW Mokoan Solar Farm in Victoria. The project, which achieved financial close with support from Deutsche Bank, aims to stabilize the grid and maximize the solar farm's output. The Mokoan site is part of a portfolio that includes the Winton North Solar Farm, both of which are backed by power purchase agreements with Amazon Web Services.

In Western Australia, Pacific Energy has signed a 10-year power purchase agreement with Rox Resources to provide off-grid power for the Youanmi gold project. The planned hybrid system will feature a 25 MW solar farm, a 9.3 MVA battery energy storage system, and 25 MW of gas generation with diesel backup. This infrastructure is intended to support the remote mine's construction and long-term operations, with the project targeting its first gold production in mid-2027.
