Renewable energy projects expand through BC Hydro bids and solar tenders

Various energy procurement initiatives are underway to expand renewable capacity. In British Columbia, BC Hydro’s Open Call for Power received bids for 53 projects from 37 independent power producers. These proposals represent approximately 1,800 megawatts of generation capacity and 6,500 gigawatt hours of firm energy per year, which is sufficient to power roughly 650,000 homes. The projects include a mix of hydro, wind, biomass, and coal resources.

In Uttar Pradesh, the Defence Estates Officer has issued tenders for three solar projects with a combined capacity of 96 MW. These projects, located at Jhansi Cantt, will be developed under a Build, Design, Finance, Operate, Maintain, and Transfer (BDFOMT) model. Bids are being accepted from Central Government Public Sector Undertakings or statutory bodies until October 21, 2026. This follows the Ministry of Defence's approval of a 250 MW solar project with battery storage in Sitapur.
