Renfe to eliminate seat reservations on several regional train lines
Starting December 12, the Spanish railway operator Renfe will implement a new sales model for various Medium Distance and Regional services that removes the requirement for numbered seat reservations. This change aims to provide greater flexibility and a more agile purchasing process for daily commuters, aligning with proximity transport models used in other European countries.
The affected routes include several connections across Spain, such as A Coruña–Vigo, A Coruña–Ferrol, Alicante–Murcia–Cartagena, Cáceres–Valencia de Alcántara, Badajoz–Villanueva de la Serena, Mérida–Zafra, Burgos–Vitoria–Pamplona–Zaragoza, Valencia–Teruel–Zaragoza, and Salamanca–Valladolid–Palencia.
In addition to the reservation changes, Renfe is eliminating extra fees for transporting fully assembled bicycles. The company is also removing the surcharge for traveling with pets, specifically for animals up to 10 kilograms in carriers and dogs weighing up to 40 kilograms.
