Renfe restores Valencia commuter lines after heavy rain disruptions
Renfe has restored rail services on the C1 (Valencia-Gandia) and C2 (Valencia-Xàtiva-Moixent) Cercanías lines following disruptions caused by heavy rainfall and red weather alerts. The resumption of service occurred on Monday afternoon after Adif completed safety inspections of the infrastructure using explorer trains.
In addition to commuter lines, long-distance services connecting the Valencian Community with Catalonia have resumed, specifically on the Valencia-Alicante stretch. Medium-distance connections between Valencia, Alicante, Murcia, and Albacete have also returned to normal operations.
The service recovery follows a period of tension between Renfe and the Semaf train drivers' union. Semaf had recommended that drivers not operate on the C1 and C2 lines due to the red weather alerts. Renfe criticized this move as “unilateral” and “arbitrary,” arguing that technical data from the Aemet-Adif agreement indicated that the tracks were safe for travel during the morning hours.
