Renfe increases monitoring of Talgo S106 trains after detecting cracks

Renfe has increased monitoring of the S106 series Talgo trains following the discovery of cracks in the bogies. As a preventive measure, the state-owned railway operator withdrew two additional train sets from service during the last week of August.

This action follows a control plan established in coordination with the Spanish Railway Safety Agency. Renfe has requested that the manufacturer, Talgo, conduct a deeper analysis to determine the cause of these defects and implement technical measures to ensure reliability. Talgo noted that the cracks appeared in units that do not operate on the Madrid-Barcelona corridor, suggesting that infrastructure conditions in that specific area are not the primary cause of the damage.

Renfe stated it will keep any train with questionable mechanical components out of circulation until they pass established technical examinations. This development follows previous withdrawals of S106 units from the Madrid-Barcelona route, which now primarily serve Galicia and Asturias.
