Buñol prepares for La Tomatina festival with 150,000 kg of tomatoes

The town of Buñol is hosting the 79th edition of La Tomatina, an international tourist attraction where approximately 22,000 participants are expected to engage in a massive food fight using 150,000 kilograms of tomatoes. The tomatoes, specifically a variety known as 'pera' grown in Badajoz, are not intended for human consumption.

To manage the large crowds, Renfe has increased capacity on Cercanías Valencia lines, offering 1,700 additional seats via reinforced trains. This logistical support aims to provide an alternative to private vehicles.

Media coverage for the event is extensive, with RTVE providing its first-ever live broadcast of the festival through a special program, while À Punt is also deploying significant technical resources for live coverage. The event is supported by a security presence of approximately 1,000 agents to ensure public safety during the festivities.
