Renfe introduces new Series 453 trains for Madrid Cercanías

Renfe has introduced its new Series 453 Cercanías Madrid trains at Príncipe Pío following the completion of homologation tests, commercial simulations, and driver training. During the initial phase, two units will operate on the C-7 line to test operational integration and allow passengers and staff to adapt to the new service.

The new fleet, contracted from Stadler for over 1.306 billion euros, includes 79 high-capacity trains. The units feature a mix of one and two-story carriages, with the T200 models reaching up to eight carriages, making them the largest single-composition trains in the fleet. The design allows for flexible lengths to meet varying demand levels.

Key features include level access for passengers with reduced mobility, multifunctional areas for bicycles and strollers, Wi-Fi, USB and 220V power outlets, and real-time passenger information systems. The trains are designed for sustainability, utilizing LED lighting, efficient climate control, and energy-recovering electric braking. They operate on Iberian gauge at a maximum speed of 140 km/h.
