Renfe reinstates León‑Gijón summer train service

Renfe will operate the seasonal “Tren Playero” between León and Gijón starting 1 July, running daily throughout July and August. On weekdays the train departs León at 09:16, arrives in Gijón at 12:20, and returns at 20:25, reaching León at 23:37. On weekends it leaves León at 09:27 and arrives in Gijón at 12:39, with the same evening return.

The service provides rapid access to Gijón’s coastal beaches, including Playa de Poniente (within walking distance of the Sanz Crespo station), San Lorenzo and El Arbeyal via local buses. Renfe also revives similar summer coastal routes – Valladolid–Palencia–Santander and Miranda de Ebro–San Sebastián – with occasional road detours due to railway works.

Tickets are sold through Renfe’s website, mobile app, station kiosks and ticket offices. The train promises a traffic‑free alternative for beach‑goers from León, allowing a full day at the Cantabrian coast without parking hassles.
