Hedge Funds Increase Short Bets on German MDAX Movers RENK and LANXESS
German MDAX stocks RENK and LANXESS have drawn heightened attention from large hedge funds as both shares posted roughly a 3% daily gain.
For RENK, Capital Fund Management raised its net short position to 0.50% and Marshall Wace expanded its stake to 0.70%, while other funds such as AQR Capital Management (2.38%) and Citadel Advisors remain active short sellers. The rising share price is pressuring these short positions and heightening the potential for a short‑squeeze.
LANXESS saw a similar pattern, with Citadel Advisors LLC increasing its short exposure from 1.18% to 1.27% and BlackRock Investment Management (UK) lifting its short to 2.05%, the highest among known short sellers. Additional funds, including BlackRock Financial Management and AQR Capital, continue to hold sizable shorts. The stock’s 3% rise adds further risk for these positions, also suggesting possible squeeze dynamics.
