Renk Group to more than triple tank transmission production by 2030
Defense supplier Renk Group is significantly expanding its production capacity for tank transmissions to meet rising global demand. The company plans to increase annual output from fewer than 600 units in 2023 and over 800 in 2024 to more than 2,000 units by 2030.
As part of its ‘Made for Germany’ initiative, Renk intends to invest up to 325 million euros in digitalization and capacity expansion at its German locations by 2028. This includes modernizing facilities in Rheine to transition from manual manufacturing to small-series production, which is expected to reduce production time for certain components by approximately 60 percent.
Financially, the company reported a 29.7 percent increase in order intake during the first half of the year, reaching 1.2 billion euros, with a total order backlog of 7.4 billion euros. This growth is driven by increased procurement of armored vehicles and weapon systems by NATO states following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Renk currently supplies drive technology to the German Bundeswehr and approximately 70 other armies worldwide, supporting vehicle types such as the Leopard and Puma tanks.
