Renkum Airborne exercises require rescue of two parachutists
During the Renkum Airborne military exercises in the Netherlands, two parachutists required rescue after becoming stuck in trees. The jumps, conducted from a Dakota aircraft over the Renkumse Heide, were part of the commemorations for Operation Market Garden.
One of the individuals, a 58-year-old British parachutist, was stuck approximately seven meters high for about an hour. Due to the harness constricting blood flow, the man briefly lost consciousness. Emergency services eventually used a jump cushion to safely retrieve him. He sustained minor injuries but did not require hospitalization.
A second parachutist was also rescued from a tree later in the afternoon. While other participants landed in various locations, including a golf course and a house roof, they were able to self-rescue without emergency intervention.
