Spanish towns advance major urban construction projects

Valencia’s Gran Vía Marqués del Turia is entering the final stage of its overhaul, with the last layer of sound‑absorbing asphalt laid and completion expected within two weeks. The new pavement should cut traffic noise by about 10 decibels and reduce emissions by up to 20 percent.

In Catalonia, the medieval wall of Sant Francesc de Valls will reopen to traffic in August after 18 months of works funded with €2.79 million from EU Next Generation programmes. The project restores 140 metres of wall, two towers and creates a pedestrian zone.

The historic centre of l’Alfàs del Pi in the Valencian Community is slated to finish its street‑pavement and arbor‑planting works by the end of August, with street furniture to be installed in early September.

Castellví de la Marca’s municipal football field (El Múnia) received approval for a four‑month refurbishment of its perimeter wall, with works expected to start in October and finish early 2027.

In Sabadell, the former Campoamor market is being demolished and rebuilt after lengthy neighbourhood negotiations, with plans for commercial stalls, cultural space and a permanent advisory office.

Other municipal works include the replacement of about 400 deteriorated tiles in Nules’ municipal cemetery by construction‑training students, and the preparation of tender documents to remodel Santa Úrsula’s municipal swimming pool, a project delayed since 2019.

In Austria, an architectural competition received two proposals for repurposing the historic Saracíbar bus terminal, with jury deliberations scheduled for early September.
