Renowned Italian pancreatic surgeon Professor Paolo Pederzoli dies

Professor Paolo Pederzoli, a leading figure in pancreatic surgery, died during the night of 5‑6 August. He was a professor at the University of Verona and a pioneer who built the university’s international reputation in pancreatic medicine.

Pederzoli founded the Institute of the Pancreas in Verona, co‑founded the university’s Laboratory of Medical Research (LURM), and was instrumental in securing the university’s participation in the International Cancer Genome Consortium. Colleagues highlighted his scientific contributions, his dedication to training generations of surgeons, and his humane approach to patient care.
