Renowned Valencian Painter Enrique Zabala Dies at 60

Spanish hyperrealist painter Enrique Zabala (1966‑2026) died unexpectedly at around 60 years old. Known for blending pop‑art aesthetics with American cultural references and a punk ethos, his work often featured clear, precise surfaces that explored deeper social themes.

Zabala’s last solo exhibition, "¿Qué mundo es este?", was shown in 2025 at Valencia’s Shiras Galería. The show included series inspired by photographs taken in Las Vegas and New York and referenced the writings of American playwright Sam Shepard. The gallery and local press confirmed his death, describing him as a great painter and person whose work left a lasting imprint on the contemporary art scene.

His career spanned decades, integrating influences from pop art, hyperrealism, and sociological commentary, and his sudden passing was mourned by the Valencian artistic community.
