Rent musical moves to West End with new production
The musical Rent, created by Jonathan Larson, is moving to the West End following a development by director Luke Sheppard at Manchester’s Hope Mill Theatre. The production, which is set to play at the Tom Stoppard Theatre, reimagines the story of struggling artists living in New York during the AIDS crisis.
This version features an immersive staging with onstage seating that fosters a sense of community. The production explores themes of friendship, romance, and the anxiety of the AIDS epidemic through a gritty, urban aesthetic. The cast includes Gaten Matarazzo as the narrator Mark, alongside Travis Ross, Alexa Lopez, Lazy Violet, and Danielle Fiamanya.
