Rental market trends show rising costs and millionaire tenant growth
Recent data highlights significant shifts in the global and French rental markets. In the United States, RentCafe reports a 229% increase in millionaire renter households between 2016 and 2024, outpacing the 193% growth of millionaire homeowners. While New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles remain major hubs, Southern metropolitan areas are seeing the fastest growth as corporations like Tesla and Oracle relocate headquarters to the region.
In France, the long-term furnished rental market has expanded to approximately one million properties, doubling in size over the last 20 years. An investigation by the National Housing Information Agency (Anil) reveals that furnished rentals command higher prices than unfurnished ones, with average rent differentials of 10%. In high-demand areas, such as the Paris region, these costs can be 15% higher.
