Renton City Council approves property purchase for resource center
The Renton City Council has approved the purchase of a 3.1-acre property located at 2500 East Valley Hwy. to serve as a future city stabilization campus and resource center for individuals experiencing homelessness.
The acquisition involves an office building of approximately 31,000 square feet, which the city will purchase from Strada Da Valle, LLC, through eminent domain. Renton Community and Economic Development Administrator Gina Estep noted that the site is adjacent to land previously acquired for a resource center and parks maintenance facility, making it a logical expansion for the project.
While the purchase aims to expedite the establishment of the resource center through existing structures, some public comments during the hearing expressed opposition to the $8.5 million price tag.
