Renton, WA contracts AAHAA to provide temporary supportive housing

The Renton City Council approved a contract with Alcoholics and Addicts Helping Alcoholics and Addicts (AAHAA) Supportive Housing to deliver temporary supportive housing for people who have completed inpatient drug‑treatment. The agreement covers up to 12 months of housing and recovery services for each eligible individual, with a budget not to exceed $200,000, funded by Washington State opioid settlement money from lawsuits against pharmaceutical and distribution companies.

AAHAA operates 18 housing units across King and Pierce counties. The contract runs through Dec. 31, 2027 and serves as an interim solution while Renton builds its own behavioral‑health center, a combined shelter and service hub slated to open in 2027. Councilmember and finance‑committee chair Valerie O’Halloran said the program offers the city “a supportive shelter … with a one‑year program towards sobriety.” The city’s approach mirrors a recent model adopted by nearby Auburn.
