Rep. Ben Cline Introduces Bill to Bar Men from DAR

Rep. Ben Cline, a Republican from Virginia, introduced the Daughters of the American Revolution Membership Integrity Act in the U.S. House. The legislation would amend the organization’s congressional charter to define “woman” as an adult human female and explicitly prohibit biological men and transgender women from joining the historic genealogical society.

Supporters of the bill say the DAR’s recent policy allowing transgender members has created a “governance crisis.” Laura McDonald, founder of Daughters Advocating for Restoration, called the proposal “the answer to prayer” and said it would solve the organization’s problems. The DAR has not responded to requests for comment.
