Rep. Celeste Maloy urges probe into Bosnian officials over Dodik removal

U.S. Representative Celeste Maloy (R-UT) has requested that the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) investigate whether Bosnian officials engaged in sanctionable conduct. The request centers on allegations that then-High Representative Christian Schmidt and the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Bosnia and Herzegovina interfered with democratic processes to remove Milorad Dodik, the former President of Republika Srpska.

According to a letter obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation, Maloy is urging an “expeditious review” of materials alleging that these actions may fall under existing Western Balkans sanctions authorities or the Global Magnitsky sanctions program. The controversy follows Dodik’s conviction in February 2025 for failing to implement decisions made by the High Representative. An appeals panel upheld the conviction in June, resulting in a one-year prison sentence and a six-year ban from serving as president of the Serbian-majority entity.

This follows previous calls for scrutiny from other U.S. lawmakers, including Senator Chuck Grassley, regarding the territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the actions of Dodik and his associates.
