Rep. Glenn Grothman suggests Congress should do more for the wealthy

Wisconsin Representative Glenn Grothman stated during an economic panel in Troy, Michigan, that he believes Congress “should do a little more” to assist wealthy Americans. Speaking alongside other Republican officials, Grothman addressed the “One Big Beautiful Bill” passed in July 2025, a major tax and spending initiative. While he maintained that the legislation was intended to benefit the “average guy,” he suggested that if he were designing tax cuts specifically for the wealthy, he would focus on different mechanisms than overtime or car loans.

The bill passed the House 218-214 and the Senate 51-50, with Vice President JD Vance providing the tie-breaking vote. The legislation faced intense opposition from Democrats, including a lengthy filibuster by House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, due to cuts to assistance programs such as Medicaid and free school meals. Data indicates the bill has added approximately $4 trillion to the national debt.
