Rep. Gwen Moore defends democratic socialism and market economy

U.S. Representative Gwen Moore (D-WI) defended democratic socialists, stating they believe in a market economy and capitalism but advocate for increased regulations and a social safety net.

Speaking on Bloomberg’s ‘Balance of Power,’ Moore argued that Republicans have attempted to use fear by characterizing democratic socialism as communism. She noted that such labels have historically been applied to programs like Medicare and Medicaid.

Moore also commented on a recent election, suggesting that Republican efforts to characterize candidate Francesca Hong as a communist failed, resulting in a victory for David Crowley. She praised Hong’s campaign for focusing on affordability and connecting with voters facing economic exhaustion.
